Wudang Sword Continued...
Grandmaster Li, Jing-Lin, the 10th generation lineage holder of Wudang Dan Pai and a widely-recognized very high level swordsman, proposed this set of 13 basic Wudang Sword techniques. They are Chou (抽draw), Dai (带carry), Ti(提lift), Ge(格parry), Ji(击strike), Dian(点point), Beng(崩making the tip of the sword go upward abruptly by pressing the wrist downward), Ci(刺stab), Jiao(搅stir), Ya(压press), Pi(劈split), Jie (截intercept)and Xi(洗slice). In this seminar, the way of executing each technique and their uses will be introduced through demonstration and individualized guided practice. To help students better understand the energies and applications of the techniques, there will be a session of two-person dueling sword practice. During the process, the training methods of body moving, hand and eye techniques as well as footwork will be included. It is advisable that participants bring a Chinese straight sword for the solo form. For dueling practice, a bamboo or wooden sword will be safer to use. If the situation does not allow the participant to bring a straight sword, a wooden sword or even a stick of a sword’s height used for both activities will also be acceptable. The book “The Major Methods of Wudang Sword” translated by Dr. Lu and commented by Master Chang will be available for reference and/or purchase on the site.
