Las Vegas Chinese Martial Arts Championship
The Las Vegas Chinese Martial Arts Championship is a new, open tournament created by Grandmaster Tony Yang and Master Nick Scrima. It will be held August 29-31 at the Tuscany Suites and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Below, you will find downloadable flyers and forms which contain more information, such as registration, venue reservations, and division sheets. Please check back here for more updates.

The following year, the Second Annual Las Vegas Chinese Martial Arts Championship will be held August 7-9, 2009 at the same venue, the Tuscany Suites.

    We are now accepting applications for judges for Las Vegas. Please download and complete this form and mail it to the Chinese Martial Arts Center, 1370 Main St., Dunedin, FL by July 15, 2008.
  • Volunteer Registration (PDF)
    We need volunteers for the upcoming tournament in Las Vegas. We need time keepers, score keepers, and door help. There will be a volunteers meeting on Friday evening at 7:00 PM at the Tuscany Hotel and Casino to go over assignments. Training will also be provided. Volunteers will get free access to all events and a staff shirt.

Professor, trainer and competitor, Master Florin Szondi has dedicated his life to practicing, teaching and promoting traditional and contemporary Chinese martial arts, especially Taijiquan, while taking the art to further heights. His teaching methods and values convey and support the message that martial arts are one of the most valuable ways of physical, moral and social education. Master Szondi gives without reservation his vast experience to all open and eager to learn. He inspires and instills confidence, power, sensibility, creativity, professionalism and passion.

Currently, he teaches and holds seminars in his institute, Szondi Martial Arts and Fitness Institute, Hollywood, FL.
Chen-Style Taiji Single Broadsword
Chen-Style Taiji Single Broadsword is one of the short weapons routine. The original routine is a short routine (13 movements), and combines practical and powerful movements of rolling, thrusting, blocking, chopping, cutting, and intercepting. The broadsword routine is played powerful truly showing the special characteristics of Chen style: hardness and softness in harmony, fastness and slowness, and looseness and agility in movements. This routine can be easily enjoyed by both beginners and advanced practitioners.

Trained in Beijing, Siu-Fong Evans (Chinese: ???) has earned wide acclaim and admiration for her elegance and accuracy in Taijiquan. She has won over 50 gold medals throughout China and the U.S.A. She has earned both Athlete of the Year (2000) and Coach of the Year (2001) in the USA Wushu Kungfu Federation Hall of Fame. Siu-Fong Evans is also a professor of Chinese, a published writer in Chinese, and the author of the Chinese textbook Chinese I - Easy to Learn. Numerous Chinese and English articles have been written about her talent and hard work.
28-Form White Crane Health Exercise
28-Form White Crane Health Exercise is a combination of the best exercise movements in Taiji, Qigong, eight silk brocade and Yijingjing. This exercise is based on the principle of Taiji - relaxation, continuation, coordination and breathing techniques. It is very easy to learn. It is designed for all ages.
Basic 9-step Taiji
Basic 9-step Taiji is a form designed for beginners. Movements are based on the Yang Style Taiji. You will learn most of the important steps in Taijiquan. Learn the whole form in just one hour. Unlike many Taiji forms, Basic 9-step Taiji does not require too much space. Learn it and practice it inside or outside of your house to stay healthy.

Master Benson Lee is one of the senior students of Grandmaster Leung Shum. He was a consistent tournament champion and was rated within the top ten forms competitors in the country by various martial arts magazines. Master Benson Lee was instrumental in helping to popularize the Eagle Claw style in the United States through his many tournament wins. Master Lee was also featured in many articles on Eagle Claw for Inside Kung Fu Magazine.
Eagle Claw Fighting Principles & Strategy
Learn the 7 Principles of Eagle Claw fighting. Discover Eagle Claw fighting strategy of incorporating a variety of claws, sweeps, and locks into your skills. When it works and when it does not. The use of palms vs. fists, and the quick explosive strikes of Eagle Claw. Keep your opponent off balance and control the fight.

Dr. Weng was an assistant to the late Grand Master of Shuai-chiao, Chang Tung-sheng, at Central Police University in Taiwan in the 1970's. He was the founding Chairman of the Shuai-chiao Committee in the Kuoshu Association of Taiwan. He later founded the Pan-American Shuai-chiao Federation and invented Cardio Tai-chi in 2000. Dr. Weng was certified as the first International Wushu Judge in USA by IWUF and served as an arbitrator at the 2nd World Wushu Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 1993. He is currently the founding President of the World Cardio Tai-chi Association, and is the Dean of College of Tai Chi at University of East-West Medicine, which offers the first Master of Tai Chi Degree Program (www.uewm.edu) in the world.

Shuai-chiao (Shuaijiao) for Sanshou and Chin-na
Shuai-chiao (Shuaijiao) is the original grappling fighting art of China. It has become an international sport event. Dr. Weng will explain Shuai-chiao theories from the 'Poem of Shuai-chiao', as taught by Grand Master Chang Tung-sheng, and demonstrate Shuai-chiao techniques used in Sanshou and Chin-na (joint control). Twenty-four hand techniques from his textbook, Fundamentals of Shuai-chiao will be practiced for Shuai-chiao entries and hand controls. All levels of Shuai-chiao and Sanshou practitioners are welcome to participate in this work-out.
Cardio Tai-chi (Taiji) for Fitness and Sanshou Drills
Cardio Tai-chi, invented by Dr. Chi-hsiu D. Weng in 2000, provides a high-intensity workout that minimizes risk to joints, ligaments, and muscles. Dr.Weng will introduce how different styles of Wushu/Kungfu and Tai-chi can use his Cardio Tai-chi method for combining their techniques, fitness training and Sanshou drills as a method of pursuing Tao, The Way, and self defense/wellness in one package.

Cardio Tai-chi has been offered as an accredited course at National Taiwan Sport University. It was enlisted as an event at the 1st World Cup Tai-chi-chuan Tournament in Taipei 2006. Specific Tai-chi techniques adopted include: Grasping Bird's Tail, White Crane Spreads Its Wings, Golden Rooster Stands On One Leg, and Frog Kicks.

Master Kenny Perez has been training in Wushu/ Kung fu for 36yrs. He is a student of Sifu Douglas Wong for 5 Animals Shaolin and Sifu Augustine Fong for Wing Chun. He currently is a student and U.S. Representative of Master Coach Wu Bin of Beijing and holds 6th level Master degree from Master Wu Bin. In 1980 Master Perez was the first non-Asian to train in Beijing with the Beijing Wushu team. As a stuntman he has performed in jobs from Berlin to Beijing and worked in movies with Jet Li and his classmate Donnie Yen as well as with famous director Yuen Wo Ping. A member of the U.S. Wushu team in '82-'84 and '88, he has won over 200 awards during his career. A certified Wushu judge, Master Perez has judged at almost every major Wushu event in the U.S. In 1984 Master Perez introduced the first contemporary Wushu training video series in the U.S. Currently he has performed as the character Loki in the soon to be released video game Too Human.
Steel Whip
This workshop will teach 9 Sectional Whip Chain basics as well as a complete routine. The Steel Whip is a sectional weapon varying is length and weight. The class will cover swings, swipes, jumps, kicks acrobatic movements and ground techniques, as well as defensive fighting techniques. Movements of single and double whip will be included.
Martial arts movie Stunting and Tricking
This workshop will introduce anyone to the basic thru advanced skills of Wushu/ Kungfu acrobatic movements, Jump kicks, Ditan movements, as well as advanced tricking skills and combat stunting skills. These movements are crucial to be a top notch Wushu/ Kung fu athlete and for anyone interested in learning skills as performed in action movies.

Master Alex Kwok started training in Mizong Luohan at the South China Athletic Association in Hong Kong at the age of 10, eventually becoming an assistant instructor in 1967. He is a student of Master T.Y. Liu and W.L. Shien, and he teaches the Mizong Luohan style as well as the curriculum of the Jing Wu Association. Master Kwok was the first to teach Mizong Luohan in Canada upon moving to Vancouver in 1969.

Shortly after, Master Kwok competed in the tournament circuit, winning top honors in forms and fighting. In 1974, in the British Columbia (Canada) Open Karate Championship, he won first place in Black Belt Weapons and Black Belt Fighting, and he then won the Black Belt Grand Championship. That same year he was the Black Belt Weapons Champion at the Long Beach International Karate Championship, which at that time was the world's largest martial arts tournament. He was ranked number one in North America Top 10 Forms Competitors for all Oriental Martial Arts. Master Alex Kwok is certified as a Taolu and San Shou Judge by the IWF (International Wushu Federation) and has fulfilled the duties of head judge in many of the IWF official events.
Jet Kune
Master Alex Kwok will be teaching a seminar on Jet Kune (Jie Quan), one of the most famous standardized forms propagated at the Jing Wu Association in Shanghai. This form teaches many of the most common kicking and striking combinations that are typical of the Northern Kung Fu Systems. The form is excellent for training, demonstrations, or competition.

A 20th generation Chenjiagou Taijiquan practitioner, Master Kam Lee who is also an Acupuncture Physician has been training Chinese martial arts for 35 years since 1973. He is currently a disciple of 19th generation Grandmaster Zhu Tiancai (one of the 4 Gems of Chenjiagou Taijiquan) and an indoor student of Grandmaster Chen Xiao Wang.

In 2007, Kam Lee captured two gold medals at the 4th International Jiaozuo Taijiquan tournament in Henan China finishing in 1st place for the traditional Chen Style Taijiquan Hand form and Straightsword routines while representing the United States Wushu Kung Fu Federation.

A veteran Chief Judge for more than ten years, Kam has performed in numerous Master’s demonstrations in the United States and abroad. His open, friendly, and practical instructions has produced many top gold medalists and has helped many students achieved a high level of understanding and performance in their martial art skills and personal wellness.

Currently, Kam Lee runs two martial arts schools and acupuncture clinics in Jacksonville and Orange Park, Florida. He is also President of the United States International Tiancai Chenjiagou Taijiquan Federation. (Please visit www.taijikungfu.us for more information)
Energy cultivation with Silk Reeling Qigong
Silk Reeling energy is the primal natural force that circulates throughout the universe. The human body is a small universe in its own right. Including this silk reeling concept in our movement can help our vital energy to increase and flows well within our body.
In this seminar, students will focus on:

Competition Tips with Five-Element Taijiquan
Based on the first four postures of Chen Style Taijiquan, this routine was created by Grandmaster Zhu Tiancai and has been adopted by the Sports Education of China as a traditional form of practice in May 2008. It was named “Five Element” Taijiquan to describe the first five of the thirteen energies of Taijiquan.
In this seminar, Master Kam Lee will:
  • explain the 5 aspects of shape, form, speed, power and spirit
  • provide tips for better performance during competitions
  • discuss the things to avoid during competition
  • teach this simple and easy Five-Element Taijiquan routine
Cultivating “Root” with Taiji Push-hands
Reacting to another force pushing against you is a very different experience than if you are practicing the form by yourself. In this body-sensitivity workshop, Master Kam Lee will take students to another level of understanding. This seminar will allow students to improve their push-hands skills and understand when to lead or follow and when to relax or apply force.
In this simple step-by-step explanations, students will be taught to:
  • understand four Taiji energies of Peng, Lu, Ji and An
  • experience what is meant by "full" or "empty"
  • practice rooting and neutralizing skills
  • learn a choreograph partner exercise
Fun with Taiji Qinna (joint locks)
Join Kam in this fun and practical applications of Taiji Qinna. For those who are curious as to know how the concept of soft (yin) and hard (yang) works in martial arts, this seminar will enlightened you to a better understanding of the Taiji theory and philosophy which you have often heard or talk about. After this seminar students should be able to develop a good sense of confidence in a close contact situation with this energetic skill.
Master Kam Lee will show you:
  • the "hidden" last four Taiji energies of Cai, Lie, Zhou and Kao
  • the concept of "borrowing" force in Qinna
  • basic self-defense Qinna skills
